There's no better place in SF to people watch than Outside Lands
This year’s Outside Lands weather has been a perfect example of a San Francisco summer, with a blanket of fog and temperatures that led festivalgoers to turn merch store blankets into makeshift jackets. Obviously, the music is the main draw, but one of the secondary pleasures of any music festival is absorbing the wide range of personalities and styles that turn Golden Gate Park into a city unto itself for the weekend.
Whether it’s the mass of teenagers congregating around the windmill, well-heeled attendees lounging in the VIP courtyard watching livestreams of the sets, or superfans in the front row hugging the barricade, everyone seems able to carve out their own little slice of the park.

Certain fashion trends were impossible to ignore. It may just have been Charli XCX fans representing, but on Friday, there was a wealth of black leather throughout the crowd, coinciding with one of the festival’s best rock music slates in years — including standout sets from Wet Leg, Geese and Turnstile. Younger patrons’ styles skewed on the preppier side, with packs of teens often rocking khaki shorts and light jean jackets. Faux fur was another big trend, which may have been an opportunity for some attendees to dig their Burning Man looks out of their closets a few weeks early.
