Streets of Stratford: Richard Monette Way
Former artistic director left a lasting legacy at the Stratford Festival
Part of Queen’s Park Drive was renamed in 2021 in honour of Richard Monette. The section that was renamed is the oval that runs from the entrance to Upper Queen’s Park from Parkview Drive closest to the Festival Theatre.
Richard Monette was born in Montreal, the son of Florence M. (née Tondino) and Maurice Monette. He was a student at Loyola high school in Montreal and Concordia University.
At the age of 19, he made his professional acting debut playing Hamlet at the Crest Theatre in Toronto and, in 1965, joined the Stratford Festival company, beginning a lifelong affiliation as actor and director with the institution that would become his........
