Residents have right to complain, but at what cost?
Every municipality in Ontario must deal with complaints from residents, and at least one has taken it to the extreme.
It was recently reported that Norfolk County spent about $200,000 last year to address a series of complaints, lawsuits and other matters deemed frivolous, with the implication that it amounted to wasted taxpayer money while placing a burden on staff to deal with the cases.
No references were made to any specific cases. One can only speculate what these might be, especially when they’ve been deemed as frivolous and vexatious. The county noted its costs of defending against such complaints could be better served for such projects as providing accessible washrooms at the Delhi museum, for roof repairs at the Waterford........
