GARDEN CLIPPINGS: Ontario-grown garlic is a better deal

We’ve probably all done it. Bought the cute sleeve of three garlic bulbs from the grocery store. The price was right, sometimes as low as 99 cents.

These “made in China” garlic bulbs pale in comparison to their Ontario locally grown counterparts. Taste is mediocre, size is smaller and moisture content is less. Their shelf life is weeks, as compared to months for local garlic.

By comparison, Ontario grown garlic will cost around $1.50 per bulb. But dollar for dollar, local garlic is a better deal, with a superior taste.

Garlic is easy to grow in your backyard vegetable garden. Plant in fall, sometime before soil freezes up, and you can........
