‘Orwellian’ is the only word for Trump’s reaction to the fatal Minneapolis ICE shooting

British writer George Orwell in 1940. His name is often evoked in times where people fear government suppression of the truth. 

“Orwellian” is one of those terms that’s thrown around a lot in the 21st century. I try not to overuse the word, but the British author of “Animal Farm” and “Nineteen Eighty-Four” was eerily prescient about a lot of contemporary culture —  and I can’t seem to come up with any other description for the moment we’re living through right now.

In the wake of the Trump administration’s response to the shooting of Renee Nicole Good by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent in Minneapolis on Wednesday, Jan. 7, it feels like we’re living through the kind of post-truth governance Orwell tried to warn us about, where official narrative and what we see in reality are at odds. 

President Donald Trump boards Air Force One at Joint Base Andrews, Md., on Friday, Jan. 9. He claimed the U.S. citizen who was shot by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent in Minneapolis ran over the agent before he killed her despite being shown a video........
