Deepening Our Self-Understanding
At the core of our personalities are wounds and gifts. Psychological wounds simply reflect the imperfections of our families, our parents, and ourselves. An old definition of the word wound is “to bang into.” We can say that in our childhoods we will either “bang into” too much attention, domination, invasiveness, and scrutiny, or “bang into” too little attention, support, and guidance. There is simply no perfect family experience. Being wounded does not suggest you’re damaged goods. It merely means you’re the only kind of human being you can be – an imperfect one.
