Following a suicide, it’s natural for loved ones to question previous words and actions.

Beating yourself up accomplishes nothing, however.

The only thing that really helps is talking with someone who’s been there.

During my college years, I worked summers at a family camp in the Sierras for alumni of the University of California. A month into my first summer, I was running on a mountain road, stepped on a sharp rock, and broke a small bone in my foot. It was the first and only time I’ve broken a bone, and I was miserable. I was sent home to recuperate, and couldn't wait to heal and return.
