Working in a Hospital is a Marathon, Not a Sprint
After experiencing a bit of burnout recently, following three years of work at a hospital, I came to an important realization: I still enjoy working in a hospital. Despite the challenges, there’s something deeply rewarding about engaging with diverse patients and being constantly stimulated by a variety of cases and situations. There’s always something new to learn, something to reflect on, and a lot to think about.
Here are some lessons my time in a hospital has taught me.
1. It’s a marathon, not a sprint.
In a hospital setting, it’s easy to get caught up in trying to achieve big goals quickly. However, I’ve learned that this approach can be exhausting. Instead, I’ve adopted the mindset of focusing on each day—making it as productive as possible. Progress comes incrementally, and over time, these small daily efforts add up.
2. Reflection is the key.
