A new dating term seems to be "goblin" up some attention. It's "goblintimacy," and it's about showing up to dates as the completely authentic you—displaying the good, the bad, and the ugly in full view. This may include throwing all your flaws and baggage out there like an airport carousel and seeing what happens. Now, showing your ugly could get ugly in a bad way, especially if you go overboard. But if done respectfully, it could bring green goblin fields in dating as well.

Goblintimacy Is an Offshoot of Going 'Goblin Mode'

While goblintimacy is a new dating term, it comes from another trend that's comparatively a little more dated. The term "goblin mode" went viral on social media several years ago—which can be eons ago in social media time—to the point of becoming Oxford English Dictionary's 2022 Word of the Year. This mode emerged as a pushback against the carefully curated images that so many people presented of themselves on social media, and that corporations, politicians, and celebrities seemed to be showcasing on TV, in movies, and in advertising.
