Recently, I had the opportunity to reconnect with my dear friend, George E. Stephanopoulos, an entertainment attorney and the producer and writer of the 2017 comedy film Swing Away. The film is about a pro golfer who, after a suspension from playing in tour events, escapes to her grandparents’ village in Greece to reflect upon the deeper meaning of her life. I was honored to serve as a consulting producer on this exciting film project.

The title of the movie is significant not only because it is a common golf term, meaning to hit the ball with ease and freedom, but also because it is a metaphor for living a full and authentic life. It is the latter interpretation of the term that can be seen as a guidepost for discovering meaning in everyday life.

Many of us use sports metaphors to capture the nuances of daily living. Yet there appears to be something very special about “golf” and what it mirrors about the human condition.
