Ever since I was a little kid, I’ve been a sucker for creepy doll stories. It probably started with R. L. Stine’s Goosebumps book Night of the Living Dummy. From there, my love for that kind of story grew with movies like Child’s Play and Puppet Master, as well as the creepy X-Files episode “Chinga,” written by Stephen King. Only later, when I got more into the classic television series The Twilight Zone, did I realize that so much of this particular genre was inspired by one classic TV episode, which also happens to be the creepiest episode of the series. It's an episode that, along with the rest of the series, is available for free on Tubi.

The Twilight Zone is a black-and-white television series created by Rod Serling, who also hosted the show and wrote most of the episodes. It aired on television from 1959 until 1964. Over five seasons, 156 episodes were produced. The show is an anthology that delves into stories of both science fiction and horror, and its impact on both of those genres has been tremendous. This includes the entire horror subgenre of living doll films, from Child's Play to Annabelle, thanks to one particularly disturbing episode that inspired them all.
