LETTERS: Loretta Swit's connection to P.E.I. and the province's environmental rebates provoke comment

Loretta Swit, award-winning animal activist, artist and actress was a friend of the P.E.I. Humane  Society.

Facing a March 1988 closure date for its animal shelter in Hazelbrook, it got a boost both financially and in terms of morale with a visit to the shelter by Loretta Swit. The prominent animal welfare activist heard of the shelter’s plight and made a point of visiting.

“There are such wonderful animals here. I heard that they were going to close this shelter and I came by to give them some moral support and maybe some financial support and see what we can do to keep it open.”

She also adopted a cat. She was named honorary president of the society. She was dedicated to animal welfare and advocacy for animal rights.
