LETTER: P.E.I. farmers quietly adapting to today's pressures
I have worked in agriculture for most of my life. I have picked my fair share of rocks, operated tractors for long hours, and I’ve milked a countless number of cows. I started my ag career in the mid 1980s, and when I reflect on the state of agriculture now to then, it is a complete departure. We still grow crops, raise animals and plant orchards, but there is a hidden shift.

The size and makeup of labour on the farm has changed, the spread of non-farmers around every field and down every road has changed the implications of the social contract to farm. The finances, contracts, international trade, marketing, social media, automation and legal and regulatory frameworks have all changed.
