An interesting occurrence of some historical significance happened this week in Charlottetown that had me thinking about the PWHL.

To be honest, I’m hardly ever not thinking about the PWHL. It’s gotten to the point where my husband and daughters have learned to temper their reaction to family group chats I open with “Exciting news!” or “Devastating outcome!” because it’s as apt to be about a score, a change in the standings or an injury update as it is about information of any consequence to our daily lives.
What happened in Charlottetown, however, was not obviously connected to professional women’s hockey but was about female representation in traditionally male spaces.
On Monday, the Charlottetown fire department shared on its social media a photo of four women geared up with the caption: “A small but meaningful first, with an engine’s back seat at Station 2 filled entirely with female firefighters. It’s a reflection of how the service continues to grow and evolve.”
Three of the city’s female firefighters talked about the post and the positive reaction it garnered during an interview on CBC’s Island Morning on May 27. While they all mentioned that they had not seen this kind of representation growing up........
