As MLAs counted down the final days of the spring legislature session, Evangeline-Miscouche MLA Gilles Arsenault was granted a leave of absence to essentially cover time he had already missed inside the rail at the Coles Building.

The removal of the Evangeline-Miscouche MLA, first from his cabinet position as environment minister and later from the Progressive Conservative caucus, proved to be the opening salvo in what proved to be a long and painful House session for the Robert Lantz government.
As of May 22, Arsenault had missed almost half of the sitting days to that point. After granting the leave, Speaker Brad Trivers told The Guardian it was his understanding the request covered the time that had been missed, although no dates had been attached to the leave.
