A recent move by Premier Rob Lantz when he named a new cabinet has many in the province’s arts and cultural sector on high alert as they await the 2026-27 provincial budget.

The premier renamed some of the cabinet portfolios when he resumed office following his victory at the Progressive Conservative leadership convention in February. That happens every so often and usually signals a shift in responsibilities.

Prior to the shuffle, Zack Bell had been the minister of Fisheries, Tourism, Sports and Culture. Long-time Alberton-Bloomfield MLA Ernie Hudson took over his post but his portfolio is fisheries, rural development and tourism.

That worries Jane Ledwell, who is the executive director of Creative P.E.I., the sector council working on behalf of Prince Edward Island’s arts, culture and creative professionals. She........
