Enjoy yarn bombing displays in Peterborough for National DeafBlind Awareness Month
In celebration of National DeafBlind Awareness Month, several locations in downtown Peterborough have been yarn bombed.
Yarn bombing involves wrapping public spaces with knitted or crocheted yarn creations. Each installation is made from handcrafted pieces created by deafblind individuals, friends and family, local knitting clubs, and community members throughout the province.
Yarn bombing is a vibrant, tactile art form that symbolizes unity and the diverse talents of people who are deafblind. The installations also serve as a metaphor for connection — between individuals, communities, and the broader world.
Deafblindeness is a unique disability that combines vision and hearing loss. The month of June, and the public yarn bombings, is an opportunity to recognize, celebrate and raise awareness for people who are deafblind in our community.
