One-euro house phenomenon inspires ‘Lost in France’
Claire Ross Dunn’s new novel “Lost in France” is the perfect read for a summer escape. To be released on June 23, this book is about Marlow, an engaging main character who is disillusioned with her life and her work at a film festival.
After drinking a little too much wine one night, on a whim, Marlow decides to buy a one-euro house in Mirabelle, a small village in France, which leads her on a surprising and sometimes infuriating adventure.
When asked about her inspiration for the book, Dunn replies, “I was scrolling through Facebook when I came upon an article from The Guardian about ghost villages in Spain for sale at absurdly low prices. Yes, they were fixer-uppers — a bit of an understatement — but they promised something idyllic: a new beginning, an escape from all things fast-moving, whatever was weighing us down.
