New potter Brittany Meier experiences mind-to-body connection

Kawartha Potters Guild member Brittany Meier started creating pottery at the end of 2024 while she was on maternity leave.

“I began by taking a one-day course at The Gather Studio, owned by Dustin Johnston on Charlotte Street and loved it so much that I took several more,” says Meier. “The instructor, Jaz Raine, recommended taking a six-week beginner course at the Kawartha Pottery Guild. I loved that so much, I became a member.” 

Meier creates her pieces on a pottery wheel.

“My favourite objects to make are mugs and small trinket dishes,” she says. “I am still very new to the pottery world and I have just begun to experiment with hand building. Fun fact — I’m a lefty so my wheel spins the opposite direction.” 

Currently Meier is a studio member at the guild which means that she has access to wheel throwing, glazing, trimming,........
