Ceramic artist Alexandra Box curatorial resident at the Gardiner Museum and Kawartha Potters Guild member has been working with clay for more than 20 years, having started when she was in elementary school.

“I was introduced to ceramics through a one-day pottery workshop in my school where we made pinch pots — I was hooked!” says Box. After that she began taking community clay classes at Clayworx, which at the time was called the London Clay Arts Centre. There she learned from several accomplished potters who had attended the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design in Halifax.

She describes her ceramic work as a “process-based practice.” She often collects materials by hand and tests them out to create sculptures.

Box is currently a curatorial resident at the Gardiner Museum in Toronto where she is working on medical ceramics, an assignment which took her to Paris, France on a research trip.
