It is finally time for me to write about a beautiful big family that we have been following all summer long. I didn’t want to write about them until now because they live on one of the many smaller lakes here in the Kawarthas and I did not want to attract attention that could endanger them.

Way back in late spring we began keeping an eye out for them. This family has been breeding here in the Kawarthas for several years and in the past has had ups and downs in raising their young.

The first couple of years they had smaller families, anywhere from two to four cygnets. Then one year they had seven cygnets but unfortunately not all of them survived the whole summer.
