Ever since Ron Hextall retired from hockey in 1999, the Philadelphia Flyers have had extreme difficulty solidifying a dependable starting goaltender. The City of Brotherly Love has become commonly known as a “Goalie Graveyard,” due to its inability to secure a franchise puckstopper. Whether it’s been overhyped prospects or veteran stopgaps, the organization has struggled in goal for nearly three decades.

The Flyers have employed an extensive list of netminders who were unable to establish themselves as bona fide starting goalies in the state of Pennsylvania.

This long list of puckstoppers includes Steve Mason, Carter Hart, Roman Cechmanek, Michael Leighton, Brian Boucher, Ilya Bryzgalov, Martin Biron, Robert Esche, John Vanbiesbrouck, Antero Nittymaki, Sean Burke, Jeff Hackett, Ray Emery, Michal Neuvirth, Petr Mrazek, Alex Lyon, Brian Elliott, Cam Talbot, Martin Jones, Felix Sandstrom and Sergei Bobrovsky
