New Indigenous youth summer camps added at Trent University
TRACKS (Trent Aboriginal Cultural Knowledge and Science) has expanded its summer camp offerings this year with two brand new camps. The new camps, Makwa Camp and Mitig Camp, will be offered along with the traditional Trent Camps that have been renamed Niibin Camp July and Niibin Camp August. Niibin means summer in Anishinaabemowin.
The camps are geared for youth ages six to 12 and take place at the TRACKS Teepee at the Camp Kawartha Environment Centre, and at Trent University’s Gathering Space. The nature areas and trails surrounding the teepee, and some indoor and outdoor spaces on Trent University’s East Bank are also utilized.
TRACKS facilitates dynamic, land-based youth programming that braids multiple scientific approaches by centring Indigenous ways of knowing and being.
Niibin Camps are open to Indigenous and non-Indigenous youth. Makwa Camp is open to all BIPOC........
