Gold medal inspiration caps record year for Five Counties

Five Counties Children’s Centre marked a busy, record-setting year at its 50th Annual Meeting that celebrated the accomplishments of 2025/26 and featured the presentation of numerous awards.

The keynote address was made by local Paralympian Jon Thurston, who shared his journey from growing up in Dunsford to winning a gold medal in wheelchair curling last March at the Milan Cortina 2026 Paralympic Winter Games.

“What better way to cap our 50th year, and golden anniversary festivities, than with inspirational comments from a gold-medal winner and record-setting performance from our staff who go above and beyond every day for our kids and families,” said Scott Pepin, Five Counties CEO.

Five Counties Children’s Centre supports children and youth with physical, developmental and communication needs in Peterborough, Northumberland County, Haliburton County and the City of Kawartha Lakes.

The all-time highs that Five Counties has attained over the past year were highlighted at the meeting. During 2025/26, the Centre served 6,574 clients, the most ever in its 50-plus year history and provided a total of 56,687 client visits (1,300 more than the previous year), setting another record.
