Oilers free agency: Top 10 targets for Edmonton to watch
We’re hours away from the start of free agency, and the Oilersnation editorial staff has been hard at work in recent weeks identifying who could be the Edmonton Oilers’ top targets in free agency.
From the forward ranks, to the blue line and between the pipes, we’ve identified 10 players that could be of interest to the team. Let’s look at each of them, and what they contract projection looks like, thanks to AFP Analytics.
Corey Perry
Who doesn’t love a little reunion? Perry was a good soldier for the Oilers for two years, scoring 27 goals and 43 points in 119 games, adding 11 playoff goals and 17 points in 41 games. He opted to leave the team last summer, signing in Los Angeles before being traded to Tampa Bay. Would the 41-year-old want to run it back?
Projected contract: One year, $2.173 million cap hit.
Ilya Mikheyev
There seems to be some smoke around the 31-year-old Russian winger and the Edmonton Oilers. He’s a speedy player and a strong penalty killer, who has decent goal-per-game and point-per-game numbers. He could be a Kasperi Kapanen replacement, but anything more than his projected deal would be too rich for my blood. Oh........
