Greene: The writing about test scores is on the wall. Too bad we can’t read it

A Texas teacher went viral last week after crying in a video he posted on social media about how poorly his high school students were reading and writing.

Darius Williams, a teacher at Wheatley High School in Houston, said that on the first class of the second day of school he gave his seniors a simple task to read two paragraphs and write a sentence about what they read.

“I basically completed the sentence for them,” he said as he wiped his eyes. “These are 17- and 18-year-old kids, and they couldn’t fill in four words. Four words.”

“This is only day two,” he continued, “and I have seniors who simply cannot read and seniors who cannot write. They cannot write.”

We all should be crying.
