Nottingham City Council is making a strong habit for making surprising announcements. In the last few weeks, we've had confirmation that the last remains of the Broadmarsh Shopping Centre will be knocked down and more recently, the council's leader has said Nottingham has got enough student flats.

Its announcement this week on car parking is perhaps the most surprising yet. For the first time in years, the price of parking at Nottingham City Council-run sites is set to be frozen from April.
