Son of man who died after brawl criticises decision not to press charges

George McGibbon said he disagreed with the police and Crown Prosecution Service's ruling not to press charges after his father Neil McGibbon died following an altercation outside the Kings Head pub in Loddon.

He said his father "deserved better than the way his life was abruptly and cruelly ended" and would "miss him each and every day" for the rest of his life.

Neil McGibbon, 58, died in hospital two days after he was punched in the face outside the pub on November 10, 2023. He fell and hit his head on a kerb.

Mr McGibbon, from Chedgrave, had been drawn into an altercation with a group of young men who had been kicked out of the pub by landlord Phillip Taylor for not "buying enough drinks".

An inquest into his death at Norfolk Coroner's Court earlier this month concluded that Mr McGibbon had become "unwittingly involved" in an "altercation instigated by others".

Police launched an extensive investigation following the death and made a series of arrests before consulting with the CPS, which ruled out any prosecutions.
