Man dies after taking mother's cancer drugs 'recreationally'

Paul Atkinson, 52, was found unresponsive in bed at his parents’ home in Thorpe St Andrew, Norwich, on November 29, 2025.

An inquest at Norfolk Coroner’s Court heard Mr Atkinson had been the main carer for both his seriously ill mother and father, who was living with dementia.

Assistant coroner Johanna Thompson recorded a short narrative conclusion after finding there was insufficient evidence to determine whether his death was accidental or intentional.

The court heard Mr Atkinson had a history of alcohol dependency but had been sober for several months before his death and was attending Alcoholics Anonymous meetings.

In a tearful statement read to the court, his sister Sarah Jane Turner described him as caring, sociable and in a far better place than he had been........
