First Norfolk patient to receive pioneering NHS treatment dies aged 31

An investigation has been opened into the death of Norwich mum Veronique Mwembo, originally from the Congo and living in Beverley Road, who died at the Norfolk and Norwich Hospital on January 23 this year.

An recent inquest opening at Norfolk Coroner’s Court heard Ms Mwembo worked as a childminder and was the mother of a two-year-old son, who is now being cared for by family members.

Paying tribute following her death, loved ones described Ms Mwembo as a “devoted mother” and a “cherished daughter, sister and niece".

Professor Richard Ball, who carried out a post-mortem, gave the provisional medical cause of death as acute cardiac failure due to foreign material pulmonary embolism with intravascular foreign body organisation.

Sickle cell disease and a depressive illness with psychotic features were also recorded as contributing conditions.

Area coroner Johanna Thompson requested reports from Ms Mwembo’s GP and the hospital involved in her care, alongside a pen........
