An action plan detailing improved CCTV and stronger 'physical security' has emerged in an effort to prevent substances being smuggled into the facility.

The HM Prison and Probation service scheme is a response to an unannounced inspection carried out by HM Chief Inspector of Prisons earlier this year.

It revealed 24pc of prisoners who were given a random drug test were found positive for illicit substances.

Some 43pc of inmates told inspectors drugs were easy to obtain.
