Whether he was winning stock races, running his own business or jumping at the chance to see the world, Jack Chamberlain did nothing by halves.

He was born on August 23, 1946 at his grandmother’s pub the Dun Cow in Swainsthorpe, now known as the SugarBeat Eating House.

His parents, Leslie and Audrey, were living at the pub with Audrey’s mother and their older daughter, Jill. Later, they welcomed Jack’s brother’s Neville and Lesley.

The family later moved to Church Close in the village and Jack attended school in Long Stratton.

Their father ran his own road and coal haulage business and had Jack helping out with the rounds from the age of 13, carrying coal on his back in all weather.
