'$40,000 given to victim's kin as asked by Nimishapriya's family': Centre tells MP

New Delhi : In connection with the ongoing legal and diplomatic tussle over Malayali nurse Nimisha Priya who is on death row in Yemen, Union Minister Kirti Vardhan Singh stated in the parliament that the matter is currently dealt between the family of the deceased and family of Nimisha Priya and the centre has no role to play in it.

The stance of the central government over the matter was clarified in the reply given by the Union Minister of State for External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh to John Brittas MP in the Rajya Sabha.

The Minister said that $40,000 has been transferred to the family of the victim through the account of the Ministry of External Affairs at the request of Nimisha priya’s family. The Minister of External Affairs said that discussions are ongoing between Nimisha priya’s family and the victim’s family for further steps.
