‘Stay possible in case of no unanimous decision’: SC on SIR row over CEC Gyanesh Kumar

Senior Advocate Vikas Singh argued that the CEC is currently more powerful than any other constitutional authority. Pointing out that the same was not the case in 1990, he added that the Election Commission was empowered in 2023.

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Monday issued a notice to the Election Commission and Centre on a pea seeking suspension of the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar. It asked both to respond to the notice within a week.

The bench consisted of Chief Justice Suryakant, Justice Joymalya Bagchi and V. Mohana. During the hearing, it  observed that decisions of the Election Commission must be either unanimous or by a majority. It added........
