Attack on one is attack on all: Saudi, Turkey, Pakistan sign Mecca Joint Defence Agreement

Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Turkey have signed a joint defence agreement in Mecca with a collective security clause covering all three countries. The pact comes amid heightened conflict across West Asia and growing concerns over regional security and energy routes.

Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Turkey signed the Mecca Joint Defence Agreement on Friday, August 7, creating a three-country security pact under which an armed attack on one member will be treated as an attack on all three. The agreement was signed in Mecca by Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

The deal comes during a period of intense conflict across West Asia. Iran and its allies have launched attacks on Saudi Arabia and other Gulf states since the US and Israel attacked Iran on February 28. Shipping through the Strait of Hormuz has also been severely disrupted, adding pressure on major energy exporters in the Gulf.
