New Delhi: French police just scored a major win in the fight against cybercrime. The man suspected to be the infamous hacker IntelBroker has been arrested in France, sending shockwaves through underground hacking circles and cybersecurity agencies alike. The 25-year-old British citizen, Kai West, is now at the centre of an international investigation that has also seen multiple members of the notorious BreachForums crew land in custody.
This is not your usual internet takedown story. IntelBroker had become a household name in the dark web underworld, known for leaking data stolen from giants like AMD, Cisco, Europol, and even Facebook Marketplace. But as it turns out, confidence and caution don’t always mix.
IntelBroker rose to fame on BreachForums in late 2022. He began as a ransomware operator and later took on a leadership role, reportedly even helping run the forum. His hacks didn’t go unnoticed: General Electric, AMD, Apple, Barclays, HSBC, and even a US defence contractor were on the hit list. He preferred Monero (XMR) for ransom, and always pushed the limits of operational secrecy.
