Perth: An Australian couple has been sentenced to prison for severely malnourishing their daughter in an attempt to keep her from growing up. The parents, both 47, lived in a wealthy suburb of Perth and were found guilty of neglecting their child’s physical and emotional development.

In 2021, their daughter, aged 16 at the time, weighed only 60 pounds (27 kilograms). She was so emaciated that she had to be hospitalised and placed on a feeding tube. The parents ignored medical advice and kept her on an extremely restrictive diet, leading to severe malnutrition.
