Two Asteroids set for close encounter with Earth in 2025
New Delhi: Two NEOs from the Apollo class, 2024 YA10 and 2024 BM1, are of particular interest to astronomers due to their orbital behaviour and close-approach statistics. These asteroids have been discovered in the recent past through short observation arcs and have given useful information about the behaviour of NEOs and the possibility of their near approach to Earth and other planets.
2024 YA10, which was identified in late December 2024, is characterised by a highly eccentric orbit with an eccentricity of 0.54 and a semi-major axis of 2.10 AU. This is an asteroid that approaches the earth’s orbit with a perihelion of 0.96 AU and an Earth MOID of only 0.022 AU. 2024 YA10 will fly by the Earth on 8th January 2025 with a........
