Former ISRO chairman S Somanath has been appointed as a part-time, non-official director on the RBI Central Board for four years. Anand Mahindra has also been reappointed to the board for another four-year term.

New Delhi: Former ISRO chairman S Somanath has been appointed to the Central Board of the Reserve Bank of India, marking a move from India’s space programme into one of the country’s key financial institutions. The appointment took effect on August 20, 2026, according to the RBI.
