Unimaginable mega-management of 4.5 crore Kanwar pilgrims

The Kanwar Yatra in western Uttar Pradesh is now drawing to a close, but it has left behind memories that will be cherished throughout the year. Bamboo poles carried on shoulders, colourful decorations adorning them, tiny bells hanging amid the embellishments, holy Ganga Jal, devotional songs dedicated to Lord Shiva playing on DJs, and enthusiastic devotees celebrating their faith created scenes that were extraordinary, divine and beyond imagination images that will remain etched in the heart.

It was truly amazing, unforgettable and unparalleled. If the devotees of Shiva appeared deeply touched by the spirit of service demonstrated by the Yogi government during this Kanwar Yatra, which surged like a tide of public faith, then the credit undoubtedly goes to a policy rooted in respect for devotion and to extraordinary mega-management. It was like Maha-Yagya, as this time over 45 million devotees took to the streets to perform Jalabhishek (ritual offering of water) to their revered deity.
