Pakistan’s Kashmir obsession is an attempt to hide its failures in Balochistan & KP

Pakistan is currently facing a deep political and internal crisis as separatist movements are gaining momentum in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. This has led to fears that the country might be in for another split like the one of Bangladesh in 1971.
However, amid the escalating internal strife, the Shahbaz Sharif government is fixated on its same old Kashmir raga, instead of trying to douse the dissent in its backyard. On Tuesday, Pakistan’s parliament unanimously passed a resolution reiterating the demand for a plebiscite in Kashmir, which is nothing but a clear attempt to divert public attention from the country’s own crises. This call comes after the Indian government has already rejected Pakistan’s demand several times.
According to media reports, Pakistan’s Kashmir Affairs Minister Amir Muqam presented the resolution in the House, reaffirming Pakistan’s “unwavering moral, political and diplomatic support” for the Kashmiri people’s right to self-determination.
This resolution was moved when Pakistan is on the brink of financial collapse and heavily relying on IMF bailouts even as its people are grappling with inflation and lack of basic necessities. However, instead of addressing these existential threats, Pakistan’s politicians are obsessing over an issue that has long been settled by India.
It may be noted that this is not the first time such a resolution has been passed in the Pakistani parliament in support of Kashmiris.
