Maha Kumbh stampede: Opposition needs to stop politicising tragedies; engage in constructive criticism
The tragedy during the Maha Kumbh in the wee hours of Wednesday when a stampede occurred at the Amrit Snan on Mauni Amavasya in Prayagraj Mahakumbh, Uttar Pradesh, is very unfortunate. According to the Prayagraj district administration, between 1 am and 2 am, before the Brahma Muhurat, a massive crowd built up on the Akhara Marg in the Mela area. Due to the pressure, barricades on the other side collapsed, and people rushed to the other side, trampling devotees who were waiting for the Brahma Muhurat snan.
According to sources, 30 devotees lost their lives in the stampede, and out of these, 25 have been identified, while the rest are yet to be identified. Around 90 injured people were taken to the hospital by ambulance. Amid this, the fact cannot be denied that despite massive arrangements by the Yogi Adityanath government for the pilgrims, the people seemed focused on taking a holy dip at the ‘Sangam Nose’ only, causing a gathering of a massive crowd.
