New Delhi: In the changing landscape of Indian politics, women are proving to be a decisive factor in electoral victories. Thus, the focus of every political party across the country is to build a strong support base of female voters. This base of female voters has proved to be a strong voter bank for political parties. Keeping this segment in mind, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced several important measures for women in her eighth budget on Saturday. She gave many gifts to the women and youth, the prime focus of PM Narendra Modi under the GYAN. To promote women’s empowerment, Sitharaman announced schemes for entrepreneurial women, Anganwadi, and pregnant women, among others.

By announcing a new scheme for SC-ST women in the budget, the FM has ensured that first-time entrepreneurs are encouraged, as they will get a term loan of up to Rs 2 crore to help them start their business. This initiative aims to promote women’s empowerment and entrepreneurship.

It may be noted that in India a remarkable shift has been seen in the last 5 years wherein the participation of women in the labour force has increased from 24.5 per cent to 41.7 per cent, reflecting a silent revolution in women’s economic participation. The number of working women is set to nearly double from 11 crores to 21 crores between FY19 and FY24 While the number of women entrepreneurs (those running their own enterprises) is expected to increase from 2.5 crores to 6.4 crores, potentially catalyzing a transformational shift in India’s economic and social structure.

It may be noted that the Modi government has taken many steps........
