Explained: Zelenskyy's proposal for a EU Army amid Russia-Ukraine war is a strategic necessity

It has been three years since the Russia-Ukraine war, which first began in February 2022 after Russia invaded Ukraine and began occupying more parts of the country. This war is considered to be the biggest conflict in Europe after World War II and has led to the deaths of thousands of people, including many refugees.

Amid this ongoing war, US President Donald Trump recently spoke to Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy over the phone and held discussions to begin immediate talks to end the war. Trump, who recently took office, had promised to end the Russia-Ukraine war soon, and this is his first big step in the diplomatic direction. In a post on the internet media platform X, Trump said that he and Putin have asked their respective teams to start talks immediately. Both countries will work closely together.

On seeing America’s stance on the Ukraine war, Zelenskyy’s tone changed, and at the security conference in Germany, he expressed the need for the formation of a strong European army to face Russia. Zelenskyy said that Europe cannot expect security from America for a long time.........
