Explained: Despite govt doing a lot for farmers, why are they protesting again?
Farmers’ organisations are marching towards Delhi once again as on December 2, 10 farmers’ organisations have decided to gherao the Parliament in Delhi. These farmers are protesting against the Yamuna Authority and Monday’s march is the third and last phase of their movement. Earlier, a movement was held against the Yamuna Authority in Greater Noida.
On Sunday, a meeting between the farmers and the authority lasted for about 3 hours but it was inconclusive after which the farmers announced to march to Delhi on December 2 with their demands. The main objective of this movement is to implement demands like four times compensation like Gorakhpur, benefits of land acquisition law and 10% developed plots. Under the banner of Kisan Morcha, farmers will come from the villages of Noida, Greater Noida and Yamuna region converge at the Mahamaya flyover and then jointly march towards Delhi.
The farmers demand that they should be given four times the compensation for land acquisition in Gautam Buddha Nagar like the entire state. Farmer leaders say that four times compensation was given for the highway being constructed in Gorakhpur, while the farmers of Gautam Buddha Nagar were deprived of this benefit. They also claim that the circle rate which has not increased in the last 10 years should also be increased. Along with this, they are demanding 10 per cent of the developed land in compliance with the recommendations of the High Power Committee and the benefits of the new land acquisition law, which are to be decided at the government level.
