Budget 2025: FM’s focus on agricultural growth to sow prosperity of annadatas
Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented the Union Budget for the eighth consecutive time amid the Opposition’s ruckus over the discussion on the Maha Kumbh stampede. As soon as the Finance Minister started his speech, the opposition raised slogans and boycotted the budget. However, they returned to the House after some time.
The General Budget for 2025-26 paid special attention to India’s Annadatas as the FM showered several gifts on them. Taking the Pradhan Mantri Dhan Dhanya Yojana forward in collaboration with the states the Finance Minister said that the Indian economy is at the forefront of the fastest growing economies and thus the Modi government’s focus would be on ‘GYAN’ an acronym meaning poor, youth, food provider and women power.
It is worth noting that in India agriculture sector is still a leader in employment as its share in employment was 44.1 per cent in 2017-18 and has increased to 46.1 per cent in 2023-24. This shows that during the last six years, dependence on agriculture for employment has increased by two per cent and statistics show that in 2023, 45.8 per cent of employment was in the agriculture sector.
As the farmers have been the disgruntled lot for a long time wherein they have been holding a sit-in in Delhi over various demands, the FM started her Budget speech by addressing this segment of the society. This year’s budget paid special attention to farmers and many steps have been taken to increase the income of farmers. The Budget 2025, focused on strengthening the infrastructure of agriculture, promoting technology in agriculture and increasing the inclination of farmers towards natural farming.
