Bihar Budget: Populism or pragmatism, how Nitish's govt will woo voters in poll year
The Nitish Kumar-led government in Bihar is set to present the last budget of its tenure on Monday as Assembly polls are expected to be held around October-November this year. Thus, in this election year’s budget, the focus of the Nitish government is expected to be on women, farmers, and youth, and along with it, several announcements related to women, who number about 6 crore in the state, are being expected.
Keeping the elections in mind, the people have high expectations from CM Nitish Kumar and are hoping that the Budget will contain many announcements related to the development of Bihar. CM Nitish, on his part, can also make some special announcements for the people, as his government has already announced to provide employment to about 34 lakh youth.
According to reports, the total budget of the government can be Rs 3 lakh 15 thousand crores, and there can also be allocation of funds in the budget for the announcements made by CM Nitish Kumar during the Pragati Yatra. At the same time, rural development is now a priority of the government, and thus, along with the old schemes of the villages, the government is also preparing to provide funds for new schemes.
The Bihar Economic Survey 2024-25 presented on Friday claims that Bihar is developing rapidly in many areas with tremendous growth registered in the agricultural sector. This report of the 19th edition of the Economic Survey has taken the financial year 2011-12 as the base year and has shown that Bihar has registered a significant increase in the Gross State Domestic Product. While the economy of Bihar was 2.47 lakh crores in 2011-12, it has become 8.54 lakh crores in 2023-24. It has increased by about three and a half times and also shows that the agricultural sector in the state has witnessed tremendous growth.
