Assam Police encounter drug trafficker along Assam-Manipur border, 21.36 crores drugs seized

Police said the encounter took place while the accused was being taken into custody. Officials also stated that Doungal had previously been arrested in connection with a drug-related case.

Guwahati: A suspected drug trafficker was killed in a police encounter at Jirighat in Assam’s Cachar district along the Assam-Manipur border on Thursday.

The deceased has been identified as Lailun Doungal, alias Lulun. Police said he was one of the main accused in a drug trafficking case linked to the May 6 firing incident at Jirighat, in which a police personnel sustained serious injuries after alleged drug traffickers opened fire.

According to Senior Superintendent of Police , Cachar Sanjib Saikia, security forces had intensified operations against the drug network following the earlier attack.
