New Delhi: Today is a significant day in the short history of the Aam Aadmi Party. What many thought impossible, the party looks to lose its grip on Delhi, the bastion from where all its dreams of expanding across the country as a national party emerged from. The predictions of Exit polls seem to be coming true as early trends in the Delhi Assembly election indicate that the BJP is all set to form government in the capital after more than two decades. Already crossing the halfway mark of what is required to form a majority in the assembly within two hours of vote counting, the BJP looks to finally wear the crown in the capital.
This marks an important milestone for the BJP, as its recent surge of popularity and success across the country, attributed to the ‘Modi wave’ since 2014 was unable to capture the minds of the Delhi voters. While in the Lok Sabha elections, the Delhi public might vote for BJP, when it came to the Assembly elections, it was AAP which would get near unanimous support from Delhites. The Congress as became the norm was only led to oblivion. In all this, the Aam Aadmi Party came to be the fulcrum around which the destinies of both parties revolved, first in Delhi and slowly its influence, if only indirect, came to be observed in national politics as well
