Love in times of scams: Over 70% Indians targeted by AI dating frauds, why is it so?
New Delhi: The ways of finding love have changed considerably with time. The internet and accompanying globalisation has drastically changed dating culture worldwide. This holds true for India as well, with the ways in which we look for love having seen massive changes in a short span of time.
Not just social media platforms and dating sites, but now technical innovations have become more pervasive. The entry of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the realm of online dating has only made things more complex and as it intrudes into the mix more and more, the complications are expected to get messier. This is bringing in more problems, be it financial fraud or emotional trickery, and Indians seem to be the most affected by them.
A new study by McAfee India has come out with some concerning findings related to these trends. It found that over 70 per cent of Indians are being targeted by AI dating frauds and a staggering 61 per cent believe they could actually develop romantic feelings for an AI chatbot.
